The Issues

Healthcare

With the ultimate goal of achieving free health care for all, we need to start making strides in our current healthcare system. With costs on the rise in all aspects of life, people simply cannot afford any kind of preventative care, much less health insurance.

With insurance companies looking to turn the greatest profit, we need to put health decisions back in the hands of doctors and their patients.

Education

We need to increase funding for our education system, which will also increase funding for our disability programs. The goal is to find this funding without putting extra strain on taxpayers. For example, we can tell corporations to pay what they owe. It's time we prioritize people over corporate profits. Prioritizing people also means prioritizing teachers. No teacher should have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. Teachers shouldn't have to spend their own money on school supplies needed throughout the year.

Gun Reform

I fully support the Second Amendment. That being said, we need common-sense gun laws/red flag laws. As a truck driver, I had to get a federal background check and undergo fingerprinting in order to haul hazardous materials. We could use the same system for purchasing firearms. I would also like to see purchasers undergo proper training before they purchase the firearms they intend to buy.  I am asking that we take a proper safety handling course and spend some time at a range before a purchase.

Environmental Protections

Our ongoing conflict with Iran is making it clear that we should increase our efforts toward renewable energy. Our reliance on oil for energy is costing the average taxpayer too much each year, and costs are increasing. We also need to protect our other resources, such as lakes and rivers. With the constant pollution, I fear that water from these areas will become too tainted to drink from, not just for us, but for the wildlife as well. Illinois passed a rewilding law last year that went into effect, granting more power to the DNR, to implement rewilding into its conservation strategy. (Taken from https://rewilding.org/let-illinois-amaze-us-rewilding-law-in-the-prairie-state/) We should be following their example.
